Explore the Wonders of Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe Circuit (10 days)

Itinerary overview

We showcase only the very best of Zimbabwe in this proudly local tour, featuring Mana Pools, Southern Hwange National Park and the mighty Victoria Falls.

This journey through Zimbabwe starts in Private Sapi Reserve in the Mana Pools region, which was once a hunting destination but is now focused on tourism and conservation, with a thriving wildlife population.

Next, continue to Southern Hwange National Park, where this massive park has the biggest diversity of mammals globally and plenty to see and do. Finally, you’ll end your journey in true Zimbabwean style at Victoria Falls, where action and serenity culminate in your most memorable journey yet.

Your journey begins

Day 1 - 4

Mana Pools

Tembo Plains

“Tembo” means “elephant” and is a fitting name to give you a taste of what to expect. With deep love and respect for this animal, inspiration was drawn from their gentle and magnificent nature. It’s also the only Relais & Châteaux camp in Zimbabwe, promising an elevated level of luxury in the wild Sapi Reserve in the Mana Pools region. With a unique combination of canvas and stonewall, you get to experience a wildly spectacular outdoor-indoor safari accommodation experience.

Why we recommend

  • Early morning and late afternoon game viewing in an open 4×4 wildlife-viewing vehicle, guided walks, canoeing and boating.
  • A maximum of 12 guests sharing. Eight guests in four tented rooms and one family tent sleeping four
  • Game viewing is exceptional in the Sapi Private Reserve, and sightings of the endangered African wild dog, lions and leopards are common around Tembo Plains
  • The Sapi Private Reserve borders the Mana Pools National Park with a combined range of over 337,000 hectares of prime, protected wilderness and is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Day 4 - 7

Hwange

Wilderness Linkwasha Camp

Located within a private concession in a flourishing south-eastern corner of Hwange National Park. Linkwasha gives you access to the famous Ngamo Plains and its many wildlife residents. With a focus on space and eclectic contemporary design, the eight en-suite tents and a family unit promise unbelievable views of the surrounding areas and the main area overlooking a popular watering hole.

Why we recommend

  • Linkwasha lies within a private concession in the enormously productive south-eastern corner of Hwange National Park.
  • Sleep out on a romantically-lit platform under the crystal clear African skies in the ‘middle-of-nowhere’.
  • Night drives and walking safaris (in season) are possible due to the camp’s location within a private concession.
  • The camp overlooks a very productive waterhole for all-day game viewing from the comfort of the lounge area.

Day 7 - 10

Victoria Falls

Matetsi Victoria Falls

At Matetsi Victoria Falls, it’s all about the small moments we like to refer to as Matesti Magic. It was the Gardiner family’s vision to showcase everything exceptional about their home country, Zimbabwe. This was realised by shining a light on local artisans and creating a conservation legacy for future generations. From the distinctly African interior design to the warm hospitality our home soil is known for, Matesti Victoria Falls is the ultimate base for exploring the Falls and wildlife-packed landscapes. Here you will experience riverside living at its finest, with the mighty Zambezi lulling you to sleep.

Why we recommend

  • The ultimate combination itinerary, including safari, river, and Victoria Falls adrenaline adventures balanced with tranquillity.
  • The Victoria Falls, also known as Mosi-oa-Tunya (the Smoke that Thunders), is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World.
  • Matetsi Private Game Reserve has 15km of exclusive river frontage and is set on 136,000 acres of pristine bush, ensuring a truly exclusive safari experience.
  • Privately owned and managed by the Gardiner family, with a strong focus on conservation and social development.

Frequently Asked Questions

An average between low and high season pricing has been used to create an average cost as a rough indication only. Seasonal and tactical offers and deals exist at most of the properties in our featured African itineraries. We have not included these in the calculations for now and will apply them according to the dates and season you want to travel. Please enquire for exact pricing for your intended travel dates.
There are so many reasons, but in particular, because of the easy access. To get to your Zimbabwean destination, there are currently international flights that fly directly into both Harare and Victoria Falls i.e. via Kenya, Dubai or Ethiopia. You can also fly straight from Cape Town or Johannesburg and connect to Harare, Victoria Falls or Bulawayo on the same day.
All year round is good for Victoria Falls and Hwange National park, although camps in Mana Pools National Park and Sapi Reserve are seasonal and close over the Summer months between November and May. The prime safari season falls over the shoulder seasons and winter months from May till October when animals can more easily be seen and are concentrated around areas with water. The main rainy season for both Victoria Falls and the rest of Zimbabwe falls between November and February, however, this period, which is known as the “Green Season”, is also a wonderful time to visit as it is lush and verdant and is the main birding season where migratory species can also be seen. In the Victoria Falls area, the ‘Low Water’ period runs between August and January and is at its lowest between November and early December. The best views of the falls at this time will be Devil’s Cataract which is permanent and on the Zimbabwean side of Victoria Falls.
Certain areas can be connected by road. Hwange National Park, for instance, is only 2 1/2 – 3 hours away from Victoria Falls by road. To connect to the other destinations however, it will be necessary to fly on scenic light aircraft flights between airstrips that are typically a 15-30-minute 4×4 drive from each lodge.
Zimbabwe is a fascinating and beautiful destination with incredible natural wealth and many game reserves that offer different experiences. On this itinerary, two of the destinations, Victoria Falls and the Greater Mana Pools National Park, are UNESCO World Heritage sites and Hwange National park is an immense conservation area, Zimbabwe’s largest national park, that ranks amongst Africa’s top national parks and will deliver a premier wildlife viewing experience.
