Family Fun from Bush to Beach

Victoria Falls, Sabi Sand and Mozambique (11 days)

Itinerary overview

Taking your family to explore the best Africa has to offer, from the mighty Victoria Falls to the wildlife-packed plains of the Sabi Sand, and ending it on a relaxing note on the powdery beaches of Mozambique.

Your adventure commences in the playground setting that is Victoria Falls, where the largest curtain of water plummets down to earth, mist billowing from below. With something for everyone, the entire family will be thoroughly in awe and entertained here before you move on to the safari heaven, Sabi Sand.

Watch the youngsters’ eyes grow as you explore Africa in all her unfiltered glory before ending the family holiday on a peaceful note on Mozambique’s sandy banks lapped with turquoise water.

Your journey begins

Day 1 - 4

Victoria Falls

Matetsi Victoria Falls

At Matetsi Victoria Falls, it’s all about the small moments we like to refer to as Matesti Magic. A family holiday is one of the most magical gifts you can give, forever treasuring your time together.

It was the Gardiner family’s vision to showcase everything exceptional about their home country, Zimbabwe. This was realised by shining a light on local artisans and creating a conservation legacy for future generations. From the distinctly African interior design to the warm hospitality our home soil is known for, Matesti Victoria Falls is the ultimate base for exploring the Falls and wildlife-packed landscapes. Here you will experience riverside living at its finest, with the mighty Zambezi lulling you to sleep.

Why we recommend

  • The ultimate family safari accommodation choice with family-oriented suites and villas, as well as the Matetsi Cubs Program to entertain and educate little ones, giving parents a well-deserved break.
  • The Victoria Falls, also known as Mosi-oa-Tunya (the Smoke that Thunders), is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World.
  • Matetsi Private Game Reserve has 15km of exclusive river frontage and is set on 136,000 acres of pristine bush, ensuring a truly exclusive safari experience.
  • Privately owned and managed by the Gardiner family, with a strong focus on conservation and social development.

Day 4 - 7

Sabi Sands

Londolozi Pioneer Camp

Sheltered by ancient 500-year-old ebony trees, the Londolozi Pioneer Camp is a legend in its own right. As your own private safari homestead, it merges the feeling of an authentic, immersive luxury with all the comforts of modern-day luxuries at your fingertips. The Pioneer Camp is ideal for multigenerational families, accommodating 6-12 people. It’s the most intimate family-run safari homestead in Southern Africa, with an explorer lounge, interactive kitchen, lookout deck, breakfast balcony, and full-length lap pool.

Why we recommend

  • Londolozi is an original, stand-alone, family-run safari lodge and our 100-year-old conservation development model.
  • Situated in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve, considered to be South Africa’s premier safari destination and one of the world’s best locations for seeing the elusive leopard.
  • Technically speaking, Londolozi doesn’t have a Londolozi Children’s Program; it is more of a “Children’s Philosophy” which embraces the fact that each child is unique and has a different departure point to fun.
  • Spa treatments at Londolozi’s Healing House.

Day 7 - 11

Bazaruto National Park

Anantara Bazaruto Island Resort

An island family holiday calls for accommodation right on the beach, complementing the experience. That’s why Anantara Bazaruto Island Resort will delight even the most discerning family member, with its opulent villas spoiling you with memorable ocean views. With a plethora of facilities and an onsite activity centre, you’ll be spoiled for choice and endlessly entertained. While the children are kept busy, unwind at the Anantara Spa while soaking in the 360-degree views of the Indian Ocean.

Why we recommend

  • The Bazaruto Archipelago is one of the largest marine reserves in the Indian Ocean and holds the largest endangered Dugong population in Mozambique.
  • Perfect family-friendly accommodation in the Deluxe Sea View Pool Villas.
  • An abundance of family-friendly activities, a kids’ club, two outdoor pools, a private beach, and deliciously presented meals to fill the days are endless.
  • A visit to Santa Carolina Island and snorkelling at Two Mile Reef.

An average between low and high season pricing has been used to create an average cost as a rough indication only. Seasonal and tactical offers and deals exist at most of the properties in our featured African itineraries. We have not included these in the calculations for now and will apply them according to the dates and season you want to travel. Please enquire for exact pricing for your intended travel dates.
All year round is good for Victoria Falls and the Greater Kruger National Park areas, although for Mozambqiue, the main rainy season falls over January and February and is a period best avoided. Victoria Falls can be very humid in October and the main rainy season for both Victoria Falls and Greater Kruger Park falls between November and February but even this period, which is known as the “Green Season” is a wonderful time to visit and is also the main birding season where migratory species can also be seen. In the Victoria Falls area, the ‘Low Water’ period runs between August and January and is at its lowest between November and early December. The best views of the falls at this time will be Devil’s Cataract which is permanent and on the Zimbabwean side of Victoria Falls.
All locations on this tour are considered malaria areas and we advise the use of anti-malarial prophylactics year-round. Consult your travel doctor for advice at least three weeks before departure to Africa.
Game viewing at Matetsi Victoria Falls is exceptional and the Sabi Sand Game Reserve is Southern Africa’s premier private safari destination and synonomous with frequent sightings of the elusive leopard. The reserve is a “Big 5” reserve, so you can expect to see the rest of the Big 5 as well, including lion, elephant, rhino and wildebeest.
